Ronni Delay

Past President

My name is Ronni DeLay. In my professional career, I am a Business Segment Liaison for UnitedHealthcare. I acquired my first Border Collie in 1978. I showed him in Obedience and was fortunate enough to qualify and show at the Gaines Classic with him. I bred my first litter of Border Collies under the prefix Majestic in 1986. I kept a dog from that litter, V Ch Majestic Jet Ruelle UD, OA, PT, AAD, VNAC – the first BCSA Versatility titled Border Collie to earn an AOM at a BCSA National Specialty (in 1998 handled by myself and awarded out of the Veterans class by judge John Ritchie from Scotland – Jet was 12 years old). Jet and I were also a USDAA Grand Prix National Finalist in 1992 and 1993, placing in the Top 12 both years. It was because of Jet, who instilled in me my all-consuming love for the breed, that I first decided to push for full AKC recognition for Border Collies.

In the fall of 1990, with full AKC recognition as our goal, a friend and I co-founded BCSA and in March of 1991 we solicited for members nationwide for the first time by advertising in the national obedience magazine, Front and Finish. Once Border Collies became fully recognized, I am proud to say that I bred and owned the first breeder/owner-handled Border Collie champion in AKC – V Ch Majestic Terbo’s Magic Moment HT, CD, NA, ROMX. I am the first breeder to have received BCSA AOMs two years in a row on BCSA Versatility titled dogs. I also bred and handled both the dog and the bitch who won the ‘Champion with a Herding Title’ classes the first time this was ever offered at a BCSA National Specialty and went on to win an AOM on the dog – VX Dual ChX Majestic Outlander HXAs, CDX, HCT, OTDs, TDI, ROMX (awarded by judge Bruce Kilsby from England).

I have served BCSA as President, Treasurer and Board Member at Large. I co-founded the Kentuckiana Tartan Border Collie Club (KTBCC) and am the current President. I have also served KTBCC as Vice-President, Secretary and Board Member at Large. I founded the local AKC Agility club, Derby City Agility Association, where I served as President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Board Member at Large. I’m a past Board Member, past Open and Utility Obedience instructor and Lifetime Member of the Greater Louisville Training Club. I am a Lifetime Member of the Louisville Kennel Club and was awarded the LKC Outstanding Sportsmanship Award for Obedience in 1993. In 2011 I was awarded the BCSA/AKC Good Sportsmanship Award.

I have titled quite a few Border Collies – both my own and for friends – in Agility, Conformation, Herding and Obedience. I have mentored many people in all these venues as well. I am a retired AKC Agility judge and a current ASCA Obedience judge. I am currently active in Conformation, Herding and Obedience. And, while I only breed on a small scale, I pride myself on being an AKC Breeder of Merit and for breeding dogs that have excelled in multiple venues year after year. With regard to BCSA, my first objective is always for the best interest of the breed and the club.
