This year I'm pleased to announce a new format for issuing Invitations to compete in the BCSA Obedience Invitational. So listen up - this Invite could be for you!

As always the Invitational will be open to those teams who have earned the right to compete for "Obedience Trial Dog Of The Year" honors. However, this year the field will be expanded to include all current BCSA member Border Collies who carry either a UDX or OTCH title. These dogs will compete in the "Combined" division where they will perform all the exercises from the AKC Open & Utility classes. The Combined division winner will then progress to the Championship run-off.

In each of the other divisions - Novice, Open, and Utility, Invites to compete are granted to all current BCSA member Border Collies with 3 scores of 193 or better in AKC competition. Those scores must be earned in the highest division from which the dog holds an AKC Obedience title. For example a dog with a UD must have earned 3 scores from the Utility class of 193 or better to compete in the BCSA Obedience Invitational. Dogs in the Novice, Open, and Utility divisions will perform all the exercises from their respective class. The winner from each division will progress to the Championship run-off. The cut off date for scores or new titles will be September 1, 2005.

The exciting Championship run-off will consist of a challenging extended heelwork pattern. This pattern could include any of the elements commonly seen in British/Crufts style obedience. The winner of the run-off will be named "BCSA Obedience Trial Dog Of The Year" for 2005. Rosettes and prizes will be awarded and the winning team will be featured in an issue of Borderlines.

Judges for the 2005 BCSA Obedience Invitational will be Mr. Mike Piefer (Wisconsin) and Ms. Dianne Allen (Nevada). The entry fee is $10 for the Novice, Open, and Utility divisions, and $15 for Combined. Entries are limited and will close when judging limits are reached per AKC rules. So enter early to avoid disappointment!
