Looking back, I think I was doomed from the start to be a dog lover. I have no memories of not having pets, in spite of my lifetime of allergies to both dogs and cats. To date, my allergist just smiles knowing the lecture is pointless. While other children were playing with toys, you could find me playing with goats belonging to friends. I’m sure they had no idea herding was in my future.

Although we had our own dogs, I remember being fascinated by my Great Aunt’s Border Collie mix, Brutus. He was a true gentleman who was just plain biddable. We had sporting breeds and quite frankly, they were only biddable if it was their idea.

When I was finally old enough to have my own dog, I could not talk anyone into the idea of a Border Collie. We lived in town and we didn’t have sheep. So instead, they let me get Dalmatians. My Dalmatians were gifted but stubborn and finding a work ethic was always a challenge. At that point, I started planning for my first Border Collie and 7 years later Alex came home.

Although Border Collies are my hobby, I’m driven to strive for excellence. I make every attempt to have fun with my dogs and do the best we can do as a team. I believe you never stop learning so I try to take advantage of dog/training related seminars as much as possible. Currently, my dogs can be found doing conformation, herding, tracking and rally.

Outside of Border Collies, I work full time as a Veterinary Technician. My primary interests are behavior, canine structure, movement and animal dentistry. I share my home with my husband Karl, stepsons Derek and Mason, our son Blake, 2 cats, 2 parakeets, some fish and the Border Collies.
