In "real life" I am a Registered Nurse and have worked for the Visiting Nurse Association of SW Indiana for the last 15 years doing home health care. I own a 5 acre farm outside Evansville, Indiana, with sheep, geese, ducks and currently 3 Border Collies.

I have been involved with dogs my entire 59 years of life! When in college in the 1960's, I had a Border Collie-German Shepherd cross dog that continually amazed my friends by doing exactly what I told him to do in general conversation! Much later I discovered the world of "formal" dog training and showed a Cocker and two Cavaliers to earn obedience titles, and my Cavalier bitch to her AKC conformation championship. In 1992, I moved from city life (in California, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Colorado) back to the farm in Indiana where I was raised. As the old dogs died off, I began to look for my first registered Border Collie, but could not find the type of BC I wanted among the local dogs. I ended up leasing a bitch and started my own Winthrop line (I am a descendant of John Winthrop--my pedigree is on the wall...) In the last 12 years I have bred 4 litters, striving to breed dogs that maintain/improve on herding ability, are versatile performance dogs with excellent conformation to perform the tasks they are assigned, and with stable temperaments to also be delightful companions in the house.

Four of my dogs have been awarded the BCSA Versatility Award with titles in herding, agility, obedience, rally and flyball. In 2005, Myrrh was tied as runner-up for the Janet Larson Most Versatile Border Collie at the BCSA National Specialty, with points in herding, agility, obedience and conformation.

I have been very involved with BCSA activities, serving as Co-Chair for Herding at the National Specialty in 2005, Chair for Agility in 2006, and Chair for the Janet Larson Most Versatile Border Collie Award in 2007. I also served on the Nominating Committee 2 years ago. I wrote an article for AKC about the BCSA Herding Trials in 2005, and have written several letters and articles published in Borderlines. I have also written a book "God/Dog Parables: How relationships with our dogs reflect our relationship with God."

I look forward to serving the membership of BCSA in a new role as Board Member.
