Visit the Breed Colors Page for complete color listing and examples. 07.13.2005 At the request of BCSA the AKC has implemented the additions/changes requested for the Registration Slip color and marking selections. Some of the additions to the color list are Gold, Brindle, Lilac, Sable Merle, Saddleback Sable, White w/ ticking . Some of the additions to the markings list are White markings, brindle points, White markings, ticked, White markings, brindle point, ticked, White markings, tan points, ticked. While this is not an all inclusive list of possible colors and markings of the Border Collie it does add many choices not previously available on the registration slips. AKC does have a limit on the number of choices on the slips. Hopefully the new choices will help eliminate some of the confusion when registering some of the less common, acceptable colors. One of the major sticking points has been the color selection to mark for the Oz Red dogs. The only choice previously available was to mark red on the registration slips which made it confusing when red has been the traditional red. With Gold as an available selection it is now possible to eliminate that confusion. Gold should be marked for dogs that are Oz Red, be that light or dark and all the various shades between the two. Red is for the red dogs. be that Irish Setter red to deep liver red and all shades of red between, the depth of the shade depends on modifiers they are all either Gold or Red for the purpose of color selection. If you have a dog(s) that is already registered with AKC and you would like to change the color information on the AKC records you need to write to AKC and request the change. If you just want it changed on their records there is no charge. If you want it changed on their records and a new Registration Certificate showing the new color there is a $15.00 charge. Respectfully,
Sandra Lindenmuth, 2005
