2007 BORDER COLLIE NATIONAL SPECIALTY
October 15-21, 2007-Purina Farms-Gray Summit, Missouri
JUDGE Mary C. Murphy-East

Return to Judge Central

I have lived with Bearded Collies since 1978. The Murphy family owned one of the first 200 Beardies born in the United States. My children and grandchildren grew up learning to walk holding onto the back of my Beardies. I have shown my dogs putting conformation titles on several here and in Canada. There is an added excitement being a breeder/owner/handler. In 1986, I had the opportunity to instinct test my young Beardie. He did a great job according to the tester. This city girl only knew he was trying to bring me sheep with horns, who thought they were Gazelles. After watching the joy on my dog’s face as he worked, I was hooked! My goal now is to have titles on both ends of my dog’s name.

An added bonus of working at the all breed trials I have been exposed to the different herding styles of the various breeds. Watching the different breeds herding stressed the need for correct structure to support their working style.

In real life, I work as a computer technician maintaining high-speed data networks for Qwest. My dogs add balance to my overly technical world. Currently I judge Bearded Collies, Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs, German Shepherd Dogs and Junior Showmanship. I have attended about half of the herding breeds National Specialties including the Border Collie National in 2006.
