2006 BORDER COLLIE NATIONAL SPECIALTY
October 16-22, 2006-Purina Farms-Gray Summit, Missouri
HERDING JUDGE JOY SEBASTIAN-HALL
Return to Judge Central

I started herding with dogs when I was a teenager, using Blue Lacy's to help an uncle move his swamp cattle out of the lowlands near the Old and Lost River in SE TX. I switched to Australian Cattledogs and began to compete in trials in the 80's while running Santa Gertrudis at the farm. In the 90's I became a member of the International Superdog team, traveling all over the United States and Canada performing in front of thousands of screaming fans. My first Border Collie, Roux, became quite famous, becoming the 'voice' of the Superdogs and being interviewed by many radio and TV celebrities. She also competed successfully in agility, obedience and herding, becoming my first AKC HX dog.

I compete in all venues, USBCHA, ASCA, AHBA, AKC and timed trials. I run Open in USBCHA, winning at the Bluebonnet, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Houston Livestock shows and Rodeos, finishing in the top ten at the TSDA State Finals and making the USBCHA Nursery National Finals. In ASCA I have won the prestigious Cowboy Classic, a grueling three day trial on ducks, sheep and cattle in 2004 and was one point out in 2006 with a 15 month old puppy. In AHBA, I put four Championships on my dogs in a string of forty qualifying runs with one dog going undefeated. In AKC herding, I have finished 20 HX titles on my dogs as well as one HC.

Our students have garnered more than 100 HIT's and RHIT's with wins coming from the GSD National Specialty, Cardigan Corgi National Specialty, Pembroke Corgi National Specialty, Australian Shepherd National Specialty, and the Bearded Collie National Specialty. I have successfully worked with 15 AKC herding breeds, gathering over 150 titles. During the past 10 years, I have had the pleasure of training dogs, working as a stock provider, being a judge for AKC and AHBA as well as being a judge for several National Specialties.

I currently live on our working farm in Hempstead, Texas with my husband and son, a flock of Texel/Dorper/Katahdin cross sheep, too many geese and ducks, six Border Collies and three LGD's.
